I’ve just realised that I don’t actually own any Dorsey albums. Just a bunch of one-off songs from compilations.
I am ashamed.
Can anyone suggest any sure-fire winners?

I think the Dorsey’s were overrated.
Tommy’s best period is generally acknowledged to be the time where he had Sy Oliver as an arranger (pinched from Lunceford). There’s an album of these tunes called “Yes Indeed” that is supposedly worth a look.
I have an album called “swingin in hollywood” that’s ok. Has We’ll Git It, Hawaiian War Chant etc.
As a general rule, I’ve found Jimmy plays hotter and faster stuff than Tommy.
Hope that helps a bit.
I have swingin’ in hollywood too. Love it. It’s one of my favourite CDs, but I’m a sucker for Tommy Dorsey. Love the man with the slide trombone. Go tommy go!
Yeah, that was my reasoning behind not getting any Dorsey stuff. I have a few songs (which, now I count, total about 40…) and they’re ok. But a discussion about the song ‘Well Get It’ made me wonder what I was missing…
I agree re Jimmy = better than Tommy.
I don’t mind some of the stuff Sinatra did with the Dorseys, though.
I’m guessing you don’t mean this Lee Dorsey.
