i've got this bee in my bonnet about the war on terror, howard-style. i couldn't help but notice the war on domestic violence was rather short-lived, considering the fact that it'll affect, oh, about nine squillion more people than are blown up by terrorists in australia.
here's a link to the Official 'australians say no to domestic violence' Site.
interestingly, howard has framed his 'no' in terms of the family, and the importance of protecting this institution.
perhaps i should write our Fearless Leader a letter.
and while i'm at it, i might just mention the same-sex marriage thing as well.

we should write a paper on this. collect the 'official' media stuff (get a press kit, i guess) and analyse it. small data set (so we don't die), analysing 'official' discourse comparing the domestic violence campaign and the war on terrorism campaign. i'll do the media talk, you do the international relations talk.
A1. then we can deliver the paper at a conference somewhere nice and both score a holiday with people we like.
eeeexcellent.
now, if only i'd kept my war on terrorism pack instead of posting it back indignantly...
Posted by: dp at August 24, 2004 05:33 PMMan! That Domestic Violence campaign really got my goat. It was so clearly a cheap shot at the female vote. Trying to make us feel all warm and fuzzy about their "commitment" to our safety and wellbeing. The lying, manipulative arseholes.
Broadcasting a few ads over a few weeks and flooding our mailboxes with glossy colour brochures is not going to address the real problems women face in the home. And it's such a fly-by-night campaign yet its highly visible so they think it actually counts.
Screw 'em.
